How Many Hats Will John Carpenter Wear In New ‘Halloween’?

John Carpenter has created some of the most iconic stories and characters in cinema history. Mostly known for his genre films, including ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK, BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA, THE THING, VAMPIRES, GHOSTS OF MARS, and the foundation of modern horror, HALLOWEEN. Equally iconic are his music scores with his live performances selling out across the world. All you have to do is play a few notes of his HALLOWEEN theme and nearly anyone will recognize the notes.

Earlier in the year, it was announced that Carpenter would return to the franchise that made him famous and brought the modern day slasher to life as an Executive Producer.

CinemaBlend quotes HALLOWEEN producer Jason Blum when he was asked about what role Carpenter would play in the new film:

John Carpenter is our executive producer. I also am hoping he’s going to do the music for the movie. The deal isn’t done, but I’m a good negotiator.

I think everyone can agree that well-crafted music score can be nearly as important as the visuals and storytelling of a film. Carpenter himself proved that with a great many of his films, so there wouldn’t be any better way to usher in a new, modern HALLOWEEN film than to bring in the creator’s musical touch.

After the first two films, Carpenter tried to make HALLOWEEN an anthology series which wasn’t received well by audiences, although it has garnered a cult following as of late. Michael Meyer’s return was handled by various writers and directors until the series was rebooted by Rob Zombie in 2007 and 2009, but those were also received with mixed results.

If a new film is going to resonate with fans and newcomers alike, Blumhouse Productions has started in the right direction. If Jason Blum can convince John Carpenter to return not only as an executive producer but also to create the music, then we’re already in great hands.  A director hasn’t been chosen yet, but we’re keeping an anxious eye out for any news.

The as yet untitled HALLOWEEN film is still waiting for a release date.
