John Carpenter Approves ‘Escape From New York’ Remake Script By Neil Cross
Hollywood has been heavy on the remakes for years now and with the explosion of the Horror genre in recent years it’s no surprise the remake craze has spread to it as well. That means John Carpenter films are a prime suspect for good material. We have Blumhouse remaking Halloween, The Rock wanting to reboot Big Trouble in Little China and of course Escape From New York. Fox Studios is producing the film and have attached Robert Rodriguez to direct after he finished his film Alita: Battle Angel for the studio. But First there must be a script and the studio hired ‘Luther’ creator Neil Cross to pen the script. He recently sat down for an interview with Deadline and spoke about the project and where it stands today.
Neil Cross –
“Robert Rodriguez is attached to direct and it’s looking good and exciting. It was quite a challenging script, it’s a challenging thing to reinvent. One of the most terrifying sentences I’ve ever heard in my life is ‘we’ve given the script to John Carpenter’. I crawled around for three days thinking ‘oh my god’ but we got John Carpenter’s seal of approval. He approved it and that’s all I need. You never quite know [if it’s done] but I might need to do some rewrites and do some nip and tuck but in the first approximation, my job is done.”
That would scare the crap out of me if I were a screen play writer. Waiting for the master to approve your words. Hopes are high this will be awesome and fans are really waiting for someone to nail the remake since so many fall flat.
