Sofia Coppola Puts Her Spin On Creepy Girls’ Schools In The Trailer For THE BEGUILED

Beguiled

Focus Features has just released the trailer for writer-director Sofia Coppola’s upcoming thriller THE BEGUILED, and it’s quite the tense one.

With an atmosphere that serves as Coppola’s template, THE BEGUILED seems to be one dripping with tension, suspense, and frustration in the midst of a story of protection and revenge.

THE BEGUILED takes place at a girls’ school in Virginia during the Civil War, where the young women have been sheltered from the outside world, a wounded Union soldier is taken in. Soon, the house is taken over with sexual tension, rivalries, and an unexpected turn of events.

Cloaked in his usual aura of charm, Colin Farrell’s John McBurney can’t break through the icy exterior that is Nicole Kidman’s Martha Farnsworth, so he begins attempting to conquer a myriad of her girls, playing each of them separately, and then it appears against each other.

Then things get really creepy. It appears in the trailer that the girls have enough of this Union sweet talker, and take matters into their own hands.  The last line screamed in the trailer is Farrell’s “What have you done to me, you vengeful bitches?” We seriously want to see what’s going on behind that locked door!

THE BEGUILED, written and directed by Sofia Coppola, based on a novel by Thomas Cullinan, stars Nicole Kidman, Colin Farrell, Elle Fanning, and Kirsten Dunst. It’s set to be released in theaters this summer.
