Orion and BH Tilt have secured the rights to director Greg McLean’s THE BELKO EXPERIMENT.

Written by GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY director James Gunn, the film was acquired over the weekend during the Toronto International Film Festival.

“I’m so proud of this movie and the amazing team of collaborators behind it and couldn’t be more excited about once more working with my friends at Orion and BH Tilt to bring BELKO to audiences,” said McLean, who broke into the horror scene with his 2005 film WOLF CREEK.  “Genre fans are in for an unforgettable ride!”

THE BELKO EXPERIMENT centers on a harrowing social experiment involving the employees of the Belko Corporation who are trapped in their office building and forced to kill several of their co-workers to survive.

“Following a rousing debut here in Toronto … we cannot wait for audiences to experience what Greg, James and Peter have created,” said Jonathan Glickman, president of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer’s film division.

“I can’t imagine a better home for us than BH Tilt,” said Gunn, who also serves as a producer on the film along with Peter Safran (THE CONJURING). “A movie as edgy and unique as BELKO needs a deft hand for its release, and BH Tilt is the deftest of them all.”

BH Tilt was launched in 2014 by Blumhouse Productions as a multi-platform release vehicle for filmmakers. Its first film was Eli Roth’s THE GREEN INFERNO in 2015, which was followed in 2016 by McLean’s THE DARKNESS.

With McLean at the helm and Gunn aboard as the writer, THE BELKO EXPERIMENT could be a thrilling BATTLE ROYALE-style mix of horror and action. Gunn, who wrote and directed 2006’s SLITHER, is also adept at using humor, so a few laughs will likely be in the mix.

THE BELKO EXPERIMENT hits theaters March 17, 2017. It stars Tony Goldwyn (“Scandal”), John Gallagher Jr. (10 CLOVERFIELD LANE), Adria Arjona (“True Detective”), Michael Rooker (GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY), Melonie Diaz (FRUITVALE STATION), John C. McGinley (“Scrubs”) and Josh Brener (“Silicon Valley”).
