HorrorHound Weekend

Horrorhound Weekend – March 18-20, 2016 / Sharonville Convention Center in Cincinnati, Ohio

HorrorHound Weekend

Considered by many to be one of the top horror conventions across the country and around world, HORRORHOUND WEEKEND was back at the SHARONVILLE CONVENTION CENTER this March. HORRORHOUND offered fans of all ages a variety of options and excitement including a spacious location, an indie horror film festival, vendors, authors, ten diverse and intelligent guest panels plus over 40 guests from all the dark corners of horror. For me, I travel to a lot of horror conventions and film festivals every year. HORRORHOUND WEEKEND has not disappointed in the five years I have been going. Based in Cincinnati Ohio at the Sharonville Convention Center for the last several years, the crew of HORRORHOUND makes every aspect as smooth and unproblematic as possible. Making sure all bases are covered, each area in the convention center is patrolled by enough volunteers and management to handle any problem or situation. With that being said, the guests all seem to be happy with their treatment from the HORRORHOUND staff. Popular names like Kane Hodder, William Forsythe, Elvira, Jon Bernthal, Doug Bradley, Scott Wilson, Mitch Pileggi and more were spread out over two huge ballrooms mixed in with fans and HH3vendors. Some of the newer guests like MASTERS OF HORROR Mick Garris, AMC’s THE WALKING DEAD actor Tom Payne, THE STRAIN’s Stephen McHattie and Robert Maillet, X-FILES Bruce Hardwood and I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVES actress Sarah Butler caused fans excitement during these appearances and getting a chance to meet those who have made an impact on them. The only sad note came from the last appearance convention appearance of legendary actor and former Jason Voorhees Ted White leaving the circuit. In all, HORRORHOUND WEEKEND had at least ten reunions of horror television, film and franchises.

With great guests, comes great responsibility to the fans for presenting these legends and figures of horror culture in ways that would go deeper into their work, life and careers. HORRORHOUND presented a wide array of panels starting off Friday with a reunion of the cult horror film SLEEPWALKERS and one for AMC’s THE WALKING DEAD. This trend continued Saturday with panels focusing on indie horror filmmakers, television horror like the X-FILES and the THE STRAIN as well as the very energetic FRIDAY THE 13TH franchise. With a lot of questions, laughs, cheers and insight, Sunday concluded with an FX panel as well as very smart panel focusing on the show SONS OF ANARCHY. An annual tradition also took place as HORRORHOUND WEEKEND presented the enshrinement of the HORROR HOST HALL OF FAME which brought horror hosts from across the U.S. to honor those late night horror film entertainers as well as presenting legendary horror host Elvira a lifetime achievement award.

As the horror hosts traveled from all parts of the planet, filmmakers did as well, with the latest HORRORHOUND FILM FESTIVAL. This film festival presented world-wide horror short films and features from mainstream infection storytelling in PANDEMIC to more indie dark, dramatic horror filmmaking like PIG PEN, HARVEST LAKE and the HANOVER HOUSE. THE HANOVER HOUSE (written and directed by Haley and Corey Norman) in a big announcement is the first film distributed by HORRORHOUND FILMS. Many were in attendance to answer questions from the fans!

HORRORHOUND WEEKEND cranked it up in the after hours with friends and peers getting time to network and hangout in an eventful setting surrounded by the COCO KEY WATERPARK. Besides the late night films, HORRORHOUND put on another jammed packed costume contest featuring some of the most creative, scary and diverse costumes around. Fans also packed the main ballroom to watch legendary horror theme composer Alan Howarth perform his famous film themes and work with John Carpenter. Howarth answered questions and sign autographs for fans. Along with Howarth, HORRORHOUND WEEKEND presented the NIGHT TERRORS concert featuring talented and diverse rock, metal and horror themed bands in celebration of HORRORHOUND MAGAZINE’S newest CD release entitled HORRORHOUND PRESENTS: IT’S ONLY A MOVIE! This was one of the many surprises, experiences and announcements throughout the very satisfying weekend at HORRORHOUND.
