Maybe it’s cabin fever setting in during our first real week of social distancing, but we just can’t stop watching these awesome horror shorts! At least you get to reap the benefits, right?

Today’s Short Shocker is a multi-award-winner from Miami-based filmmaker Jaanelle Yee, who wrote and directed the film for the Masters Directing Program at New York’s School of Visual Arts. Yee has quickly built an impressive CV in the short-form visual field, and her creative focus explores “themes of feminism in horror, mythology in modern settings, and plays on words taken literally to an absurd degree.”

Those concepts are front-and-center in Sell Your Body, a satire about the social quirks of sex in the digital age and the all-too-real nightmare of crippling student debt. The camera breaks the fourth wall to create a mock reality TV style as Yee’s story escalates from an awkward meet-cute situation to the stuff of urban legends.

Sell Your Body has been scoring (no pun intended) with festival audiences since 2017, picking up awards at Final Girls Berlin Film Festival, Atlanta Horror Film Festival, Windy City International Film Festival and Sick Chick Flicks Festival. It’s now available online via Gunpowder and Sky’s horror short channel ALTER, and we’re also adding it to our Short Shockers collection.
