Earlier this summer we announced that the good folks over at Scream Factory were going to be releasing a brand new Collector’s Edition blu ray to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the horror classic Carrie.  The blu ray is jam packed with new extras, a brand new 4k scan, and even offered a limited edition deluxe version that came with an alternate slip cover and poster.  While I haven’t had a chance to screen the new blu-ray yet, it seems promising that this will be the best release and format of the film available to date.

The following info has been made available on the Scream Factory fb page and event :

To celebrate the landmark 40th anniversary of Stephen King and Brian De Palma’s classic film, non-profit cancer support center weSPARK Cancer Support Center, the Theatre at The Ace Hotel, and SCREAM FACTORY™ will mount a once-in-a-lifetime cast & crew reunion and screening of the brand-new restoration of the film, paired with a 1970s prom-themed party! This special fan event will take place in Downtown L.A. on Friday, October 14, 2016.

The reunion is set to include Carrie stars Academy Award™-nominated Piper Laurie (The Hustler), Nancy Allen (Dressed to Kill, Robocop), William Katt (The Greatest American Hero), P.J. Soles (Halloween), Academy Award™-winning editor Paul Hirsch (Star Wars: Episode IV) and Casting Director Harriett B. Helberg (The Jazz Singer). The cast will participate in a live Q&A moderated by Bryan Fuller (the creative genius behind TV’s Hannibal, Pushing Daisies and the upcoming series American Gods and Star Trek Discovery).

In an effort to raise critical funds for weSPARK Cancer Support Center (in which CARRIE’s Nancy Allen is Executive Director) the event will see the Ace Theater transformed with prom-themed decor, during which attendees are encouraged to dress in their best 70s formal attire or favorite character from the film for an opportunity to pose for a photo in a special photo booth and win Best Dressed CARRIE character Costume contest.

Tickets start at $25, with higher limited-availability ticket tiers to include Scream Factory’s brand new 2-disc Blu-ray release, a specially-commissioned original event poster, access to a private VIP pre-reception, and opportunities for photos with cast & crew. All proceeds will directly benefit weSPARK’s cancer support programs. Order quickly before they’re sold out

Personally, I can not think of a cooler way to celebrate the 40th anniversary of one of my favorite films and the fact the the proceeds are going to a good cause make this event a must attend for me.  So to all of you senior’s out there, get your tickets before they are gone, grab yourself a tux and a date and I will see you at the prom!
