The trailer for this film is already a living nightmare for me, in light of my own past exploits in apartment-hunting. Will my FICO score be high enough to qualify after I drop $40 on the credit application? Will my pay stubs show that I make enough money? Now please, management, pick me for this one-bedroom on the third floor with the broken elevator…

Director David Marmor manages to deliver an even more horrific scenario than I imagined with the trailer for the new thriller 1BR.

[Ed. Note: Trigger warning for those sensitive to animal-in-jeopardy scenes.]

This trailer puts me in the mind of Lady in the Water, where you get to hang out with everyone at this apartment complex until it turns into a complete nightmare. From strange pipe sounds that keep our heroine up all night, to home invasion, to what appears to be a gathering of psychos, this one has me hooked despite my past housing trauma. Hey, she did sign a lease, so sorry… you’re stuck there for at least a year!

After leaving behind a painful past to follow her dreams, Sarah (Nicole Brydon Bloom of The Afffair and LAW & Order: SVU) scores the perfect Hollywood apartment… but something is not right. Unable to sleep, tormented by strange noises and threatening notes, her new life quickly starts to unravel. By the time she learns the horrifying truth, it’s too late. Caught in a waking nightmare, Sarah must find the strength to hold onto her crumbling sanity… or be trapped forever in an existential hell.

1BR comes fresh off a winning run on the festival circuit, and makes its digital media premiere on April 24 via Dark Sky Films.
