So far Legendary and Universal seem to have a knack for adding top talent to their casts of their ongoing MonsterVerse. Further proof of that comes via Variety, who reports that O’Shea Jackson Jr. is in negotiations to star in the next film in the ‘verse, GODZILLA: KING OF MONSTERS
Jackson shot to fame when he portrayed his father, ICE CUBE, in 2015’s biopic STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON.
Should talks pan out, he would join “Stranger Things” star Millie Bobby Brown, “Bates Motel” and THE CONJURING’s Vera Farmiga, and “Bloodline’s” Kyle Chandler. Michael Dougherty, who helmed KRAMPUS, is directing the film based off of Zach Shields’ script.
The Universal MonsterVerse kicked off in 2014 with Gareth Edwards’ GODZILLA. Ken Watanabe is the only member of that film that is due to return for the second outing. This year has seen the next entry in the MonsterVerse, KONG: SKULL ISLAND, starring Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson, Brie Larson, and others.
Following GODZILLA: KING OF MONSTERS in 2019, the MonsterVerse moves forward with a head to head meeting of the beasts with 2020’s GODZILLA VS. KONG. While previous films have certainly set up the prospect of more monsters, there have been no announcements of other films within that universe.
GODZILLA: KING OF MONSTERS is set to debut in theaters on March 22, 2019, with GODZILLA VS. KONG coming out on May 29, 2020.
