Sony wants to stay in the ‘Goosebumps’ business and is moving forward on a sequel. Director Rob Letterman and writer Darren Lemke are closing deals to return for another installment.
THR reported that the 2015 movie, while not a massive hit, was a solid performer for the studio, generating $80 million domestically and another $77 million internationally on a budget of $58 million. The movie has also performed well in home entertainment circles.
The movie was the climax of an 18-year journey to adapt the best-selling book series by R.L. Stine which was first set up at Fox in 1998 before movie to Sony in 2008. One of the keys of cracking the adaptation included making Stine a character and tackling not just one story but populating the movie with a host of his horror creations.
Jack Black portrayed Stine in the movie. The goal is to have him return for the sequel.
