It appears that Universal and Sony have decided to move the next chapter in the INSIDIOUS franchise from its original date of October 20, 2017, to January 5, 2018.

However, we shouldn’t fear that we’re losing another horror film in the prime season of Halloween, as The Hollywood Reporter is stating that the shift makes room for the Blumhouse upcoming film HALF TO DEATH. And INSIDIOUS 4 will just ring in the new year. It’s a win-win.

Elisa Rainer (Lin Shaye)

The move does pose some serious questions and perhaps a little nervousness for the adventures of Elise Rainier and her battle against the demons of “The Further.” Typically when a film is pushed back it’s because it’s either not ready or the studio has lost some faith in it. The landing zone of early January is also a bit troubling, as it’s often called the “graveyard” of films. Only time will tell if any of it is true, or it’s just studio strategy playing out.

Taking INSIDIOUS CHAPTER 4’s place is HALF TO DEATH, which involves Jessica Rothe’s character reliving the day of her murder over and over again until she can figure out who the killer is before she runs out of chances. Directed by Christopher Landon, the film also stars Israel Broussard, Ruby Modine, Rachel Matthews, and Charles Aitken.

While plot details for the upcoming INSIDIOUS sequel have been kept under wraps, it will star Lin Shaye, Javier Botet, Spencer Locke, with Angus Sampson and Leigh Whannell returning as Specs and Tucker. Adam Robitel will direct off of a script by Whannell, who co-created the franchise with SAW partner James Wan.
