‘Bone Tomahawk’ writer and director S. Craig Zahler is taking on writing the ‘Puppet Master’ reboot for Di Bonaventura Pictures and Caliber Media. The two companies have optioned the rights to create multiple story lines within the ‘Puppet Master’ universe.
Deadline is reports the original Puppet Master followed a group of anthropomorphic puppets animated by an Egyptian spell, each equipped with their own unique and dangerous device and are represented as heroes, anti-heroes, and antagonists. The new take centers on a recently divorced young man who discovers a mint condition Blade doll in his deceased brother’s closet and plans to sell the toy at a convention in Oregon celebrating the 30th anniversary of the infamous Toulon Murders. All hell breaks loose at the Postville Lodge during the auction when a strange force animates all of the various puppets throughout the convention as they go on a bloody killing spree.
The 1989 feature film was followed by a series of direct-to-video sequels, comics and toys.
Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian will produce for di Bonaventura Pictures with Caliber’s Dallas Sonnier and Jack Heller. Band will executive produce. The announcement was made this weekend at the Texas Frightmare Weekend presented by Fangoria.
