In the sequel to the outrageous, 2015 hit Lavalantula, 2Lava 2Lantula brought the return of the lava spitting beast and the appearance of mama-lantula. Without revealing too much of the plot I’m just going to be brief with you: The film followed our returning hero Colton West (Steve Guttenberg) whose now a A-list celebrity, as he tried to reunite and connect with his step-daughter Raya (Michele Weaver) while also working with the government to put in end to the returning outbreak of lava spitting giant spiders. Set in the same vain of SHARKNADO, the cast is star studded and the film, like its predecessor, does have a certain charm to its humor, in particular, performances I enjoyed were the ones including Michael Winslow. Winslow managed to bring an SNL quality to each of his scenes, which in-turn made the sequel unforgettable.
The Syfy disaster movie brought together a string of cameos and callbacks to Syfy’s films such as 2004’s Frankenfish. Cameos included Danny Woodburn (Seinfeld), Mark Kelly (Fear The Walking Dead), Martin Kove (The Karate Kid) and Carl Palmer (The Pelican Brief).
In this reviewer’s opinion: the sequel is only funny because of Michael Winslow and the action scenes [if somebody had a fear of spiders] would have a person hyperventilating. But judging, 2L2L is a great summer movie and a great addition to the horror/disaster movie genre. That being said, I enjoyed it. However, those with Arachnophobia (fear of spiders), flip on Wedding Crashers on E! when it premieres on Syfy this week.
2Lava 2Lantula is a production of Cinetel Films with Nick Simon (The Girl in the Photographs) directing. Additionally starring alongside Guttenberg (Three Men With A Baby) and Weaver (Illicit) is Michael Winslow (Police Academy), Marion Ramsey (Police Academy), Eric Etebari (2 Fast 2 Furious), RJ Walker (Baskets, Castle), James Bellinger (Liv and Maddie, Geek Charming, An American Affair) and Josh Sussman (Glee). Flip on the Syfy channel on Saturday at 9 [p.m] for the premiere.
Quote from the film- “Just remember guys, it doesn’t matter if you win by an inch or a lava-land-slide, winnings, winning!”
