Getting the new monthly Shudder line-up in the Terror Time inbox is one of the best gifts!
How does that airline commercial go…”want to get away?” If, like me, your summer vacation is going to be spent close to home, Shudder is here to provide an assortment of unforgettable if virtual escapes this July —from New England beaches (where something is very wrong in the water) to a Norwegian lake (of death), plus extended stays at various ill-fated sleepaway camps (The Burning, the Sleepaway Camp trilogy) and at the bottom of an empty 20’ pool in Thailand, voyages to South Korea (for an exorcism) and Indonesia (to a village with a dark secret), and a totally gnarly trip back in time to the glory days of 1980s horror.

New Shudder originals this July include Metamorphosis and Impetigore.

Other Shudder originals are The Beach House premiering on July 9 and Lake of Death, July 16.

The Beach House, a Shudder Original premieres this July 9,2020

I can’t tell you how giddy I am about the upcoming original, In Search of Darkness. This four hour-plus documentary covers the 1980s year by year and tracks major theatrical releases, obscure titles and straight-to-video gems. Topics include groundbreaking practical effects, the home-video revolution, poster art and project marketing, creative and budgetary challenges, sound design and musical scores, the 3-D resurgence, heroes and villains, sex, nudity and “the final girl” controversy, and the pop culture context that fueled the genre.

It isn’t 80s Horror without Tom Atkins. In Search of Darkness premieres on Shudder July 30.
