This upcoming documentary tells the story of the controversial children’s books ‘Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark,’ among the most banned books of all time.

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark

‘Scary Stories’ documents the history of these books, their author Alvin Schwartz and society’s reaction to his work. It’s directed by Cody Meirick and produced by CBS. Though it hasn’t been announced when the documentary will be released Cody Meirick himself released this awesome trailer on his Vimeo page.

I grew up reading these books. ‘Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark 3’ was the first book I picked up on my own, without being assigned it for school. I was fascinated and hooked into the stories and at night I was haunted by Stephen Gammell’s drawings. They felt like the most real things ever put onto paper and as you were getting into the story sometimes your mind would play tricks on you and you could swear you saw those pictures move. These books are a big part of horror culture and I look forward to seeing and hearing more about them in this film.
