What We Do In The Shadows

Did you ever see that vampire comedy What We Do In The Shadows? I did and now news has broken via The Hollywood Reporter that the 2014 comedy is now becoming a TV Series in New Zealand. If you haven’t seen the film, here’s the skinny: What We Do In The Shadows’ mocked the average documentary by following the lives of a group of vampires rooming together.

The series adaption, dubbed confusingly Paranormal Event Response Unit and helmed by Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement (directors of the original film), is said to follow officers Mike and Karen (two characters from What We Do In The Shadows), as they protect the residents of Wellington from the supernatural. Supernatural meaning, vampires, werewolves maybe even a swamp beast or a family of mummies etc. ect. etc, all while being comedic! How cool is that?! I’d tune in. So as it stands RIGHT NOW, $1 million has been invested into the six episode series order by New Zealand’s funding agency New Zealand On Air. AND the series is said to air on New Zealand’s local channel TVNZ 2.

Soo… as we wait for that to be either a success or flop lets get talking about what’s also birthing (or ahem* simmering..on low) from the 2014 film: A spin-off film featuring freakin’ werewolves! Maybe (probably) even the same freakin’ werewolves from the first film (see above the dudes with the brown hair)! Titled originally What We Do In The Moonlight, now titled “We’re Wolves”, the spin-off (maybe upcoming franchise) hasn’t a release date as of yet. And there isn’t even any sign of production moving forward as of yet and I don’t even think we’ll ever see one…for awhile. Director of the original flick and co-helmer of the spin-off Taika Waititi broke this bad news during an interview with IGN

“So we’ve out the idea of We’re Wolves into the machine, and it’s now slowly going through the sausage maker. So in a couple of years I think it will come out as a script and we’ll shoot that. Or maybe it will just come out as some t-shirts.”

What We Do In The Shadows, was directed by Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement, directing from a script by themselves. Starring themselves alongside Jonny Brugh, Cori Gonzalez-Macuer and
Ben Fransham
