I picked up my Playstation VR at launch and so far it has been a pretty incredible experience. The system works very well and the graphical power is far more impressive than what I had originally imagined. Out of the launch titles, it seems like Rocksteady’s new BATMAN: ARKHAM VR is the best example of what this system can do.
The game opens with a familiar scene that is integral to the creation of Batman. I think everyone is kind of burned out on the classic alley scene, but the way it is handled in VR makes it feel even more tragic. After the origin you are thrown into the life of Bruce Wayne and you experience classic locations such as Wayne Manor, The Batcave and a certain familiar Asylum. The game play is immersive, impressive and overall a really interesting mystery story in the Batman mythos. The game uses the move controllers and for the most part they are easy to use, but at times they can be frustrating. The motion controls are not always as responsive as you would hope, but it was never enough of an issue to ruin the experience.
One of the main complaints I have heard about ARKHAM VR is the length. The experience of the game is so breathtaking that I will admit that I was pretty bummed when the credits rolled. The good news is the game itself is only $20 and there is plenty of bonus content. This content is unlocked after the completion of the core story, and adds a little bit of replay value. In my personal opinion BATMAN: ARKHAM VR is well worth picking up if you own the Playstation VR. If the fact that you can be Batman doesn’t sell you, the immersive gameplay should. Also, if I didn’t make it clear enough… you get to be BATMAN!
Batman: Arkham VR is available now, exclusively for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation VR.
