PTC (Parents Television Council) blasted the premiere episode of FX’s ‘American Horror Story: Hotel’ as well as taking issue with Fox’s ‘Scram Queens”, both shows produced by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk.

Horror shows have defiantly have been pushing boundaries both on network and cable television over the past few years and as reported by The Hollywood Reporter the PTC, lead by president Tim Winter is pushing back. Winter wrote in an email to subscribers calling out the premier of ‘Hotel’ saying “This is the most vile and shocking content I’ve ever seen on TV. Ever,”. He’s also calling for an advertiser boycott of the series. “Most Americans have no idea this is primetime fare on advertiser-supported basic cable. And everyone is paying for it as part of their program bundle.” Winter described one scene in the episode between Lady Gaga and Matt Bomer as an “unbelievably explicit combination of sex and violence.” The group urged sponsors to spend their ad dollars somewhere else, they largely targeted Subway in this regard for some reason. Scream-Queens-Poster

As for the horror comedy anthology ‘Scream Queens’, the group took issue with its graphic imagery and its time slot at 7 P.M. in the Central and Mountain time zones. “In spite of this, the program features graphic decapitations and discussions of necrophilia in the family hour … all sponsored by McDonalds,”

The PTC is trying to hit Fox and Murphy/Falchuk where in hurts, the wallet. It’s a smart strategy but I don’t think it’ll have much of an effect. With the mass success of shows like ‘The Walking Dead’ and ‘American Horror Story’ it’s clear that mainstream American has gotten a taste of horror and they like it and if there’s one thing any longtime fan of horror can tell you it’s that once you have the taste for it you can’t just go back to watching sitcoms after work every night. Tim Winter and his “Parents Television Council” will just have to suck it up and finally learn how to use the prenatal controls that every Television, cable box and entertainment system produced in the last 15 years comes with.
