New Year, New Chuck!

Or more accurately, this newly-announced series marks a return to the original Child’s Play universe created by Don Mancini, who partnered up with original franchise producer David Kirschner and Channel Zero creator Nick Antosca to launch all-new misadventures of the legendary pint-sized death-doll harboring the sadistic spirit of serial killer Charles Lee Ray, a.k.a. Chucky.

According to Deadline, the network has made a straight-to-series order for Chucky, which continues the franchise established by Mancini in the original 1988 classic Child’s Play, directed by our very own Tom Holland. The show also marks the latest team-up between Mancini and Antosca, who co-produced and co-wrote episodes of Channel Zero.

The series begins when a vintage Chucky doll pops up at a suburban yard sale, which soon touches off a series of horrifying murders that transform a seemingly idyllic American town into a slaughterhouse. Further complicating matters are enemies and allies from Chucky’s past, who threaten to expose the truth behind the killings, while revealing previously untold events from Charles Lee Ray’s reign of terror.

“I’ve long wanted to bring Chucky to television and Syfy is the perfect network for us,” Mancini Mancini revealed in regard to the series’ year-long development process. “The show will be a fresh take on the franchise, allowing us to explore Chucky’s character with a depth that is uniquely afforded by the television series format, while staying true to the original vision that has terrorized audiences for over three decades now.”

Mancini will direct the premiere episode, and will be guiding the entire series through its terrifying twists and turns. No timeline or casting announcements have been shared as of this writing, but we’ve got our fingers crossed that Brad Dourif will return to provide the murder-doll’s iconic voice!
