Joe Bob is back — and he’s bringing some famous friends!

When Shudder recently announced the impending return of their hit show The Last Drive-In With Joe Bob Briggs this Friday, April 24, they also revealed the beloved Texas movie critic and pop-culture hero will be joined for the show’s season premiere by AEW superstar and Fozzy frontman Chris Jericho.

In the announcement, Joe Bob revealed his excitement about Jericho’s guest-host role, declaring him “the most exciting wrestling personality to befriend horror since Rowdy Roddy Piper co-hosted They Live with me on TNT years ago. I’m gonna share the hosting chair with Chris so that he can go wild on a seventies horror classic he’s been crazy about since high school. He’s a world class athlete, podcaster, actor, musician — he’s really a one-man bundle of pop-culture fun — and on April 24th he’s gonna prove that he’s also a drive-in kind of guy.”

Jericho is also thrilled to prove his drive-in and grindhouse cred to the world: “When Joe Bob asked me to come watch a movie featuring butt darts, brain sucking, backgammon for digits, a maniacal mini-Oates and a dick dog, I said: ‘What time and what trailer park!'”

Unless there’s another movie matching that description (which is doubtful), Chris is referring to Bloodsucking Freaks (a.k.a. The Incredible Torture Show and a few other titles), the notoriously sadistic splatterfest from exploitation wizard Joel M. Reed — who unfortunately passed away earlier this month, shortly after Shudder’s announcement. This screening looks like the perfect forum to pay tribute to a cult hero of politically-incorrect sadistic sleaze.

The season premiere of The Last Drive-In With Joe Bob Briggs airs this Friday, April 24 at 9pm Eastern on Shudder — and new episodes will air each Friday night through June 26. If you haven’t signed up yet, now’s the perfect time to give it a test drive: the service is still offering a 30-day free trial, which should be more than enough time to get addicted to their ever-expanding library of genre movies and shows.
