Welp. Comic Con has quickly become the source of breaking news and in yet another announcement, Vampire Diary fans were left sucked dry.

Executive producers Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson announced at Comic-Con that the show will run its last course after eight seasons. Currently the show has been on air for seven seasons.

The panel included the cast: Paul Wesley, Ian Somerhalder, Kat Graham, Zach Roerig, Candice King, Matt Davis and Michael Malarkey. Executive producers Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec were on hand with teasers for Season 8 which will start airing on October 21st.

The series premiered on The CW on September 10, 2009 and became an instant hit with the pilot episode attracting the largest audience for the CW of any series premiere since the network began in 2006. Kevin Williamson created the show after reading the books by the same name.
