YouTube has set out to carve its own niche in original programming through its YouTube Red channel, often times collaborating with internet superstars to create films and episodic series for the premium platform. This has led to another collaboration with Jason Blum’s Blumhouse Television, a horror-comedy anthology series called “12 Deadly Days.” Created by Chris Cullari and Jennifer Raite, the show will feature a cast of Blumhouse alums, network stars, and YouTube personalities.
The show will feature a dozen intertwining stories set in Saturn, CA over the 12 days leading up to Christmas. Deadline states that “…the town’s residents find themselves terrorized by everything from killer carolers and lovelorn vampires to cursed fruitcakes and haunted Christmas trees.”

Taking individual stories and finding clever ways to link them is something that has played well in the past, including the Halloween-themed anthology film TRICK R’ TREAT from Michael Dougherty. If executed well, audiences will have a fun picking out the “aha!” moments from the episodes, while enjoying laughs and scares.
The cast of “12 Deadly Days” includes Betty Gabriel, Kaitlin Doubleday, Dohn Norwood, and Tom Lenk. They’re also drawing in from YouTube talent, including Anna Akana, Brittany Furlan, Mikey Murphy, Nikki Limo, Troy Pindell, Alexis Zall, and Burnie Burns, whose sci-fi action film LAZER TEAM is also on YouTube Red.
Deadline quotes Tim Shey, Head of Scripted Programming for YouTube Red as saying:
“We’re honored to be working with Blumhouse, the masters of horror, as we move into more genre programming for YouTube Red, and were excited to pair them with twelve of the best actor-creators on YouTube for 12 Deadly Days. Viewers are going to be blown away by the storytelling, performances, and dark humor of this series, which is like nothing else out right now.”
Blumhouse is currently producing the Amy Adams-led SHARP OBJECTS. Previous hits include hit franchises THE PURGE, INSIDIOUS, PARANORMAL ACTIVITY, and OUIJA.
“12 Deadly Days” premieres on YouTube Red on December 12th. You can find more information and sign up for a free trial for the channel at https://www.youtube.com/red.
